FlyBase has updated and revised our gene reports. The purpose of this revision is to promote summarized functional information to a more visible position on the report. We have created a new section at the top of each report, just below the GBrowse preview, that includes information about protein family, protein domains and motifs, and summarized Gene Ontology (GO) molecular function data. At present, the protein family information is curated by UniProt (www.uniprot.org), and protein domains and motifs are from UniProt and InterPro (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/interpro/).

In addition to this new section, we have reorganized the remaining clickable sections to emphasize those containing functional information. GO information can now be found just below the new section, and the GO sub-sections are now always visible. This allows users one-click access to all of our GO data. We have reordered several of the other sections and moved the Sequence Ontology section to be within the Gene Model and Products section.

We also now include UniProt function summaries in our "Summaries" section, which has been moved to below the updated GO section. These summaries, when available, can be found under the sub-section heading "UniProt Contributed Data". And finally, we'd like to draw your attention to the FlyGene Wiki which has a link from within the Summaries section (as well as at the top left corner of each gene report page). We welcome input regarding the summarized function of your favorite genes. Each FlyGene Wiki page has our FlyBase computed gene summary as a starting point. Users who are interested in contributing can make an account and add or rewrite the summaries.
